Happy Fall, everyone!
I JUST posted my upcoming Fall Mini sessions yesterday over hereĀ  and cannot wait to get moving with them. Fall is such a FUN time of year! My favorite is to watch the colors change- I can’t get enough of the oranges, yellows and reds! While we are gearing up for our Fall Minis, I thought about some of the questions that I receive.. over and over and over again with family photos: What do we wear?! And I thought I’d break that down for you!
Q: What colors do we choose?
A: Match your scenery. No, I don’t mean show up in a shirt with clouds embroidered on- but I mean think about the season you are in- if it’s summer, bright and bold is more common and fits better. If it’s fall, earth tones are a great option. Here’s a good palette for fall:
Q: How much do we match?
A: As much as you want šŸ˜‰
My favorite thing is to tell families to pick 1-3 colors and to have everyone wear their own variety of those selected. In the palette above, you could choose any segment of colors and pick a few of your favorites. I LOVE it when there is a variety! Here’s my family’s photos from 2018- All in blue, but sporting styles that fit our own bodies and personalities. DSC_1058.jpg
Q: WHERE do we shop?!
A: I suggest you find a store that can accommodate the WHOLE family, so you don’t have to drive all around town for one photo! OR shop online. You can find one staple item online and use it while you shop for your other family members. If you are wanting to match perfectly, MAKE SURE you pay attention to the actual color name. If it’s called “Cobalt Blue”, go to that website’s search bar and input “Cobalt Blue” and everything in the store’s inventory that includes that color will populate! It makes shopping EASY. It doesn’t always populate as the “main” color in the item, but will help to keep that color constant and tie it all together.
If you have a larger family like me (the photo above is missing at least 3 people…), you may need to choose 2 or 3 colors like we talked about before šŸ™‚
Last but not least- buy a lot. Buy all things Cobalt Blue and take them home with you. Spend extra. Try them all on, mix up the outfits and keep them on hand until your shoot is OVER… that way, last minute changes can be made, an impromptu outfit change can occur.. and then return the unused items!
Q: Where do we book?
A: Well, since you ask… shoot me an e-mail at to set up your session!

I hope this was helpful! Keep the questions coming my way!

[jon, bianca & family]

I’ve known Jon & Bianca for a couple of years now- I had the honor of capturing their wedding video in 2016 and we have stayed connected since! It was so fun to see how their little one, Adrianna, had grown and to see them doing well as a family. Here’s a preview of our time together:

Thanks for letting me be a part of this great time in your family’s lives!

Friday Photos, The Homestead, Uncategorized

[friday photos]

i really love the spring. i love the calmness in the air. i love the constant reminder of new birth, new life, new growth. i love watching the bunnies and turkeys chase each other. and i’ll never tire of watching the deer. saturday mornings are always a dream on our property. we sip our caffeinated beverages and watch the birds, flagging the pages of the ones we see in my bird books. we watch animals poke their heads out of fields and into our view, as they creep up to the corn feeder.
i have really started enjoying watching these bunnies. they chase each other through bushes, they run and almost play “tag.” they are not fearful- as they’ll allow you to come nearly 10 feet from them before they scatter. if a bird swoops above, they do not hesitate to take off into the woods.IMG_9413IMG_9444
my husband loves these finches, i try really hard to capture a few photos of them for him in the mornings. i managed to step outside and actually get this one without scaring off the birds- instead of through our clouded windows.IMG_9449
i swear that my step dad gave me this bird bath, but it’s argued that my mom did. either way, i’m happy it’s made it to our new home and that this cowbird got to take a few sips from it.
we’ve started seeing Grosbeak’s this week. this little guy wouldn’t turn around for me but his chest is bright red and though it doesn’t look like it, their beaks are completely white. they are really neat. (This one’s for you, dad!)
i hope the deer don’t eat my tulips.
i love how spring seems to be our reset button. it breaks our winter blues and starts to change how we look at each day, at least in my world. i look forward to the new fragrances. i look forward to seeing the sun shine again. i sit and eagerly wait to see the geese land on the pond, the birds moving from tree top to tree top, the crunch of twigs as the wildlife moves through the woods. nature always reconnects me with God and allows me to be reminded of how He truly is the Great Creator.
When i look at birds like pheasants, with their intricate details- i know it couldn’t have been an accident. He knew their needs, He provided them. I am in awe. and there is more to come.

[Baby Emily]

I had the sweet privilege of meeting baby Emily this month. She is tiny and rosy and all sorts of beauty… and she has a great name šŸ˜‰
You may remember meeting her sister a while back (Olivia), unfortunately O slept the whole time and missed her baby sister’s entire photo shoot!
Here’s a little preview of this doll!

Thanks for trusting me with another one of your precious girls, Kayla & John!
