It’s totally normal to feel anxious or nervous before you jump on a Discovery call, but it doesn’t have to be your normal! In this virtual day and age we are living in, it has become commonplace to be a part of a discovery call more frequently than ever before. Once you are camera ready, here’s my top 3 tips on how to exude confidence during your discovery call and help you land your next client!
The most important tip to start with is this: Be confident. Easier said than done though, right?
While I wish I could speak light into your life and pump you up before every call you make, here are some things that YOU can do to make sure you are prepared to take on the call and portray confidence & professionalism:
1- Use Google Docs
–Google Docs is a great, FREE resource available to anyone with a Gmail account. -Take notes throughout the call and make special note of these questions: What did you learn about the company or client through your call? What are some recommendations for the company that you can make after reviewing their proposal or portfolio? -Keep record of their website, social media links and any specific job details they may have mentioned
2- Prepare Questions Ahead of Time
-Ask how they prefer to communicate- this can be a HUGE gain on your end if you start communication with them in THEIR favorite method -What goals they have by bringing you + your company onto their team -Who your direct contact will be for the project
3- Positivity
-Remember: It’s just two people (or three?) talking to each other. No pressure here. -If it doesn’t end in a signed contract, reference the call as a learning experience and evaluate how you can present your business better on the next one. Then shake it off and move on to the next one.
That’s it! These are my top 3 tips for your next Discovery call! Land your new, potential client, review these steps to be as prepared as possible, smile, and dig in. Your confidence will grow with every call and soon, you’ll be teaching others how to handle Discovery Calls with THEIR clients.
xoxo,
Emily

Take a look at some of these well-known, famous logos as we dissect some of their hidden meanings! I love creating new logos and working with new businesses to develop their brand, but can admit, I have never hidden imagery into logos thus far. Seeing these simple, yet very complex, logos portray the mission of their businesses is inspiring and something I look forward to pursuing in future designs.
The Golden Gate Bridge is represented in the lines throughout this logo, which was part of the founders inspiration as they drove into the city to register their company.
Brand logos are critical to a budding new business and can help to truly make or break their success. A logo is essentially the identity of your business and is first on the playing field for all to see. It helps to convey your goals as a business and builds a connection and imagery with the public of what your business actually does. Crafting a creative logo is the beginning step of building your business branding. Brand Logos act as a versatile way to interact with clients and the public and is typically the first exposure someone has with a new company.
Lets take a look at some essential tips for creating a perfectly branded logo for your new business.
1- Know Your Goals
The utmost importance in a logo is to understand the correlation between a brand and their business. Understanding the history of a business and the types of services and products it provides is essential to building a new logo, and all of these items should align with the logo you are creating. Your brand logo is made up of colors and design that correlate with your business image. Take a look at brands known world-wide: McDonald’s, Coca Cola, Ford, Samsung – these logos are timeless and capture the brand meaning in clear, concise branding and leave an impact on the viewer.
2- Know Your Audience
Knowing who you are attempting to reach as an ideal client is essential when creating your new logo. You are designing a logo not just for yourself or to stand out from competitors, but you are designing a logo as an attempt to connect with your potential clients. For best results, you need to know your consumers’ preferences & interests and learn how to brand accordingly. Having strong communication skills and being responsive to their desires is important and should be reflected within your logo.

You’ve heard it before “Less is More” and that sentiment is absolutely true in logo design and branding. Clean and simple logos are a must, in order for a brand to be recognizable and transferable. Overly detailed logos become difficult to print and copy onto other mediums, so keeping it clean and simplistic is key. While many of us want to incorporate items that help explain our business within our logo, we have to resign to the idea that it must be all-inclusive and actually scale back the design that will be used throughout our businesses. When you think of Nike, Apple, or Amazon, you think of their simple but catchy designs. Their logos are straightforward and meet all of the needs that a successful brand should include. Remember that less is more for creating a memorable logo design.
4-Know Your Palette
Keeping your color scheme simple, readable and classic is your main goal. It is important to consider how a logo will appear if it is inverted, scaled or printed on atypical mediums (different textures to clothing, bags, water bottles, etc.). The colors used must be complementary to one another, or it will appear as busy and confusing to the reader. Logos should be seamless and easy to read. Avoid ‘trendy’ colors, as your brand is intended to be a timeless design, and instead, stick with the colors that help convey the purpose of your business.
5-Know Your Brand Personality
Knowing and understanding your brand identity is essential before choosing the typography for your brand. Typography speaks, non-verbally, to your client and can convey whether a brand is “quirky,” “creative,” “modern,” “authoritative” and so on. Do research on the fonts that appeal to you and take note of their typeface branding. Make sure that the font(s) you choose are versatile and are consistent across your branding. It is important that your fonts are highly legible and can be scaled to larger OR smaller sizes. It is important that the typography you adapt for your brand flows well and complements each level of typeface chosen for your brand.

6- Know Your Logo Looks Good Everywhere
Creating a logo that is versatile can make your logo go the extra mile in keeping it a timeless work of art. A versatile logo will be something that stuns on letterheads, business cards, websites, brochures, banners, and more. If it looks good on a poster but doesn’t convert well on your website- it isn’t a versatile logo. If your logo isn’t transferable, it can limit your brand popularity and shareability. Take your time when choosing the elements that go into your logo, such as: format, fonts, colors, and more. These are some of the most critical tips you need to know in order to come up with a creative, yet timeless, logo for your business. Marketing can make or break a brand. Your logo is the door for many new opportunities and has the ability to convey what your brand stands for and to make a lasting first impression. Having established brand logos is the first step to success for your business.
